Blood gas electrode, carbon dioxide

Definition
An electrical conducting device used to determine the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in a sample of blood. The carbon dioxide pressure of the blood sample quickly equilibrates through a plastic membrane covering the glass electrode and is measured by it in terms of the resulting pH of the bicarbonate (HCO3-) solution in which the electrode is located. This is a single-use device.
