A delicate and light hand-held manual surgical instrument designed to constrict small blood vessels during surgery to prevent bleeding. It typically consists of a straight or curved scissors-like instrument, made of stainless steel, with grooved or serrated blades and a mechanical lock on the handles to maintain the closed, locked, position (self-retaining). The device, referred to as mosquito forceps/haemostat (hemostat), fine or delicate haemostatic forceps is used mainly during microsurgical, paediatric, and dental procedures.
