Definition
A piston-in-barrel prefilled with a sterile heparin solution used to flush indwelling intravenous access devices (IVAD), typically intravenous (IV) catheters and tubing, to maintain their patency in order to significantly reduce blood reflux during short- to long-term vascular access. The device typically includes a capped Luer connector. This is a single-use device.
