Definition
An application software program, routines, and/or algorithms intended to be used as or in an information system to electronically receive, collect, store, manage, assist in analysis of, display, output, and distribute data to support the administrative and clinical activities associated with the provision and utilization of physician services and office facilities. It may be used to process insurance claims and prepare patient statements; schedule the physician's time and make patient appointments; and store and retrieve patient records. It is typically installed into a dedicated information system for physician practice management, or existing mainframe or decentralized computers/networks.
