Rectal clamp
- Definition
- A hand-held manual surgical instrument designed for the atraumatic grasping or compression of the rectum and/or anal canal during a surgical procedure. It typically has a self-retaining, scissors-like design with ring handles and is made of high-grade stainless steel. It is available in various sizes and the working end can have a variety of blade designs, e.g., straight or curved with parallel grooves or serrations to provide grip. The blades are typically flat and thin in profile, and are flexible so that they do not cause trauma to the intestinal tissue. This is a reusable device.
