Thermal printer

Definition
A monochrome or dichrome printer designed to use heat to reproduce digital images on a printing material, typically paper. It uses either: 1) direct thermal printing on thermochromic paper, which changes colour upon contact with the thermal print head; or 2) thermal transfer printing in which a ribbon coating is melted and upon cooling permanently adheres to the printing material.
