Vibratory proprioceptor stimulation rehabilitation system
Definition
An assembly of noninvasive devices intended for rehabilitation of a patient following neurological trauma (e.g., stroke, spinal cord injury) by stimulating afferent nerve fibres (type Ia sensory fibres) using a specific vibratory stimulus; these vibrations produce the sensation of movement where there is none, and stimulate the brain to react with genuine motor activity. It includes a control unit, patient-worn vibratory stimulators, and may include one or more patient support/gravity-compensating devices for use during treatment (e.g., dedicated stander, limb supports, orthoses).
