Precautions for medication use
Always ensure the wound is clean and dry before applying or changing Tigerherbs ointment.
Wound dressings protect the wound from contamination and infection, and they absorb and remove exudation during the healing process. Dressings may consist of one or more layers depending on the wound condition. Generally, the more exudation, the thicker the dressing required.
Do not use heat lamps or drying agents such as alcohol, as they dry out the wound and may damage fragile new tissue.
It is generally not recommended to use strong antiseptic agents (such as hydrogen peroxide, acetic acid, and others) for wound cleaning unless under a doctor's supervision. Elderly patients often heal more slowly, and these agents can delay healing even further.
Do not massage the skin around or on ulcers, as this can cause further damage. Do not use donut-shaped or ring-shaped cushions, since they reduce blood flow to the area and may worsen sores.
Remove or change dressings before they dry out.
Care for healthy skin by keeping it clean and moisturized. Check your skin daily for pressure sores. Ask your caregiver or a trusted person to check areas you cannot see yourself.
Eat a healthy diet. Good nutrition helps with healing. Maintain a healthy weight and get plenty of sleep.
Ask your doctor if gentle stretching or light exercise is appropriate for you, as this can help improve circulation.
Use for sores, ulcers, scrapes, cuts, burns, chafing, boils, thorns, bites, skin infections, etc.
Bed & Pressure sores:
Stage 1: This is the mildest stage. These pressure sores only affect the upper layer of the skin.
Symptoms: Pain, burning, or itching are common symptoms. The spot may also feel different from the surrounding skin-firmer or softer, warmer or cooler.
Treatment: Apply Tigerherbs ointment lightly to the red area 3-4 times a day. Do not massage. The sore may heal in as little as 2-3 days.
Stage 2: This stage occurs when the sore extends deeper below the surface of the skin
Symptoms: The skin is broken, leaving an open wound, or it may look like a pus-filled blister. The area is swollen, warm, and/or red. The sore may ooze clear fluid or pus, and it is painful.
Treatment: Apply a thin layer (2-3 mm) of Tigerherbs ointment to the affected skin. For optimal results, cover with a thin bandage and change it every 12 hours. Clean with saline solution and dry before each change (clean the surrounding skin first, then the wound; see illustration in Step 1 and Step 2).
Recovery time: A Stage 2 pressure sore should heal within 3 days to 3 weeks.
Stage 3: These sores extend through the second layer of skin into the fat tissue.
Symptoms: The sore looks like a crater and may have a foul odor. Signs of infection can include red edges, pus, odor, heat, and/or drainage. Dead tissue in or around the sore may appear black.
Recovery time: A Stage 3 pressure sore typically takes at least one month, and up to four months, to heal.
Stage 4: These are the most serious pressure sores. Some may even affect muscles, ligaments, or bone.
Symptoms: The sore is deep and large. The skin may have turned black and shows signs of infection-such as red edges, pus, odor, heat, and/or drainage. In severe cases, tendons, muscles, or bone may be visible.
Treatment: Stage 3-4 sores require more intensive care. Proper cleaning is especially important. Clean the surrounding area with saline solution, then use appropriate wound cleaners depending on the symptoms and appearance of the wound.
Recovery time: A Stage 4 pressure sore may take three months to several years to heal.
