SAM Single Peel Arthritis Coupling Patches are designed to couple the sam® system to the body, enabling multi-hour, continuous ultrasonic stimulation of injured tissue and arthritic joints for the relief of pain associated with limited mobility and function related to soft tissue injuries, including knee osteoarthritis, chronic myofascial pain, and shoulder, elbow, and ankle tendinopathy. The newly designed coupling patches simplify the attachment process and feature a single-peel bottom foil for a more seamless and intuitive setup. These improvements enhance ease of use, particularly for individuals with limited grip strength and patients living with osteoarthritis and chronic joint pain. SAM Single Peel Arthritis Coupling Patches have earned the U.S. Arthritis Foundation’s Ease of Use® designation, recognizing products designed to make daily tasks easier for people with arthritis and related physical limitations. The designation is awarded following independent evaluation and human-factors testing focused on usability and accessibility for individuals with arthritis. The basic science, clinical development, human-factors validation, Level I clinical research, and regulatory activities supporting sam® technology have been advanced through research supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including the Helping to End Addiction Long-term® Initiative, or NIH HEAL Initiative®, and research programs of the National Institute on Aging focused on patients with chronic arthritis pain.
A medium designed to be applied to a patient's unbroken skin surface (excludes the eye surface) to provide a coupling between an analytical or therapeutic device (e.g., ultrasound transducer, optical glucose monitoring system,) and the patient, allowing for the emission and reception of energy/signals (e.g., electrical current, light, blood gas) that pass through the skin during an examination or treatment. Also known as contact gel, it is in the form of a fluid-like gel that may also assist in moving the parent device smoothly over the skin. It may be used by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting and layperson in the home. After application, this device cannot be reused.
